In 1984 Governor of Virginia Chuck Robb launched a campaign to encourage the sale of Virginia products. As the campaign went forward, Terry and Virginia LeMasurier opened the first all-Virginia store just off interstate I-81 in Staunton, Virginia. "We Have it made in Virginia" was an instant success and almost 35 years later the store still offers a fantastic range of products made in the state.
Virginia's Finest
Where I-81 paves through the Shenandoah Valley, I-64 winds down the slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and The Cardinal Train tracks through, the historic town of Staunton flourishes. Staunton, Virginia is a town where preserved history shelters 21st century pursuits. The result is a landscape of rich growing soil, dated brick buildings, and cobblestone streets, paving the way for a culture of historically-motivated minds. Staunton, Virginia is home to writers, actors, potters, woodworkers, farmers, beekeepers, millers, painters, glassblowers...and more.
In 1984, the LeMasurier family cut the ribbon and opened the doors to The Virginia Made Shop, a store inspired by the remarkable qualities of the Virginia region. Networking to local artists, farmers, writers, and more, they stocked the shelves with Virginia's Finest, and dedicated an entire wall to Virginia Peanuts, a regional gem.
35+ Years of Local Business
Off exit 222 from I-81, you'll find the Virginia Made Shop. It's more than a locally owned business; the roots stretch across the region, from coastal peanuts, to inland honey, to jams from the foothills.
